Profile: Mark has specialised in criminal law for the last 19 years, both defending and prosecuting serious cases at the Crown Court and defending at Courts-Martial. He has prosecuted regularly and successfully on behalf of the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Revenue and Customs and the Department of Work and Pensions. He has successfully defended in Crown Courts across the South of England.
The range of offences Mark has covered are extensive. These include:
- All types of dishonesty up to and including serious and complex
fraud cases, lasting several months at trial;
- Benefit frauds lasting many years;
- All types of violence, including grievous bodily harm cases, where
serious and permanent injury has been deliberately caused;
- All types of weapon cases, including fi rearms and explosives;
- Drug cases, including multi-kilo importation and conspiracy to
supply Class A drugs (for example, a recent defence case involved
the alleged possession with intent to supply 40 Kilos of cocaine;
the defendant was acquitted at re-trial)
- Money laundering, counterfeit currency and money orders, arson,
bigamy and a huge variety of other serious crime.
He has regularly dealt with cash forfeiture under the Proceeds of
Crime Act and also the enforcement of Confi scation Orders.
In all Mark’s work through thorough preparation and identifying the
right lines of argument, both factual and legal, he has presented his
cases well and successfully, while maintaining the highest standards of
his profession.
Additionally, he has argued cases successfully on numerous occasions
in the Court of Appeal and also in the Divisional Court.
