R v Onasanya (and another) (2021)

Twanieka Alcindor defended Mr Onasanya at the Exeter Crown Court who was jointly indicted for Conspiracy to supply class a drug’s in a county lines operation spanning 6 months and valued at £85,000.

The Crown’s case was that both Mr Onasanya and his co-defendant had taken leading roles in the conspiracy which involved them setting up several drug’s lines in the Exeter and Devon area suppling significant quantities of cocaine and heroin and formed several businesses together which they used as a front to hide their involvement in drugs supply. The Crown submitted that Mr Onasanya’s role and involvement warranted him a sentence between 11- 13 years imprisonment.

After drafting careful submissions on the Crown’s evidence and referring the court to recent court of appeal judgements on sentencing category and role the court accepted Twanieka’s submissions on the sentencing guidelines and mitigation, and sentenced Mr Onasanya to 4 year’s 10 month’s imprisonment under significant role.
