2DRJ recognises the potential benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing efficiency, supporting legal practice, and improving client service. This Statement of AI Use outlines the principles and safeguards that govern the use of AI within chambers to ensure its deployment is responsible, secure, and compliant with our professional and legal obligations.
Key Principles for the Use of AI within Chambers
- Accountability – Appropriate human oversight will be maintained at all times. Members remain fully responsible for all work product and outputs generated with the assistance of AI tools.
- Confidentiality – AI tools will be used in a way that preserves client confidentiality and complies with all applicable data protection and privacy obligations.
- Security – Any AI applications introduced into the chambers’ environment will be subject to appropriate security assessment and review to ensure the protection of sensitive, confidential, and personal information.
Acceptable Use of AI
AI tools may be used by members and staff to support, but not replace, professional judgment in areas such as:
- Legal research, analysis, and summarisation.
- The preparation and drafting of routine legal documents, subject to appropriate review and verification.
- Administrative and operational tasks, including scheduling, billing support, and other efficiency-enhancing activities.
AI tools will not be used for:
- Making legal judgments, providing legal advice, or taking decisions that require the exercise of professional legal expertise.
- Processing, storing, or sharing sensitive client information without appropriate safeguards and authorisation.
- Generating, disseminating, or facilitating deceptive, misleading, inaccurate, or otherwise inappropriate content.
