Biography
Donna is a criminal barrister with a busy practice in the Crown Court, where she both prosecutes and defends across a wide range of serious criminal matters. She is known for her meticulous preparation, assured advocacy, and her ability to engage effectively with clients from all backgrounds, including those who may be vulnerable.
Donna began her professional career in theatre and performance, spending eight years developing the communication skills, presence, and discipline that now underpin her confident and persuasive courtroom advocacy.
Prior to undertaking pupillage, Donna spent three years with the National Probation Service as a Crown Court officer. In this role, she was responsible for risk management and the preparation of pre-sentence reports, conducting detailed assessments of offenders and advising the court on sentencing options. This experience provided her with in-depth knowledge of sentencing principles and procedure, as well as significant expertise in client care. She brings this insight into her practice, ensuring that mitigation is presented with clarity, depth, and strategic focus.
Alongside completing the Bar Professional Training Course, Donna undertook an LLM in Family Law. During this time, she represented clients in Family Court proceedings, including FHDRA, DRA, fact-finding hearings, and final hearings. She also volunteered as an advocate for young people facing expulsion from school, reflecting her longstanding commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and ensuring access to justice.
In her criminal practice, Donna is recognised for her tenacity and balanced approach. Whether prosecuting or defending, she combines careful analysis with persuasive advocacy and a pragmatic understanding of risk and strategy. Her background equips her with a strong ability to build rapport with clients and witnesses, while advancing their cases robustly and effectively.
Donna is a committed advocate for diversity at the Bar. As a career changer from a working-class background, she is passionate about widening access to the profession and supporting those from underrepresented communities. She brings this perspective to both her practice and her professional engagement within the legal community.
